Letter Title: “Earth Day“
Earth Day is an annual event in April that reminds us to take care of our environment. Throughout the centuries as we have worked to improve our day to day lives we have also been responsible for causing great harm to our environment. Only recently have we begun to realize the extent of this damage.
The Holy Quran had warned of this in prophetic terms many centuries earlier: “Corruption has spread on land and sea because of what men’s hands have wrought” (30:42)
An interpretation of the previous verse is that environmental pollution is caused by humankind. So, the Quran has already brought this to our attention before we even created these tools for use. It is our responsibility to restore the balance with nature.
We need to decide what can be done without before the price for our heedlessness becomes too great to bear. The Earth is the home of all humanity – we all need to find ways to work together to take care of it.
