Letter Title: “‘Malala Day’ / Girls Education Day“
Education is the only way to fight ignorance and increase opportunity in this world. One should always be given the opportunity to learn something they are passionate about to advance their skills. For the longest period of time, women were deprived of the opportunity to learn. Over the years in many countries this has of course changed, but still remains a problem in many nations.
Islam stresses that education for men and women is of equal importance, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) laid down that education is compulsory for both. He said, “It is the duty of every Muslim man and every Muslim woman to acquire knowledge”. Today, July 12, we recognize Malala, who fights for the right of women to receive an education in every nation. She has inspired many people to do the same, to continue to fight, so that those who have been denied the rights to a proper education may receive one. In raising children their mothers play an immensely important and major part. This is why educating women is so very important, because they will be raising a generation of individuals who will lead the world tomorrow. The Holy Qur’an also teaches us to seek the help of God in advancing our knowledge and teaches us a short prayer for this purpose, “O my Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (20:115).
