May 25 – May 31, 2020 – “Real Meaning of Celebrating Eid”
Letter to the Editor
Letter Title: “Real Meaning of Celebrating Eid”
This past weekend, I joined a quarter of the world, Muslims in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, Islamic festival marking the end of fasting in Ramadan. This year’s Ramadan and in turn Eid-ul-Fitr was unusual and historic. We didn’t go to the Mosque to prostrate side by side in prayer with my Ahmadiyya Muslim Community nor did we hear the Imam deliver the Eid sermon from the pulpit. It was a humbling and empowering experience to lead the Eid prayer and coalesce the sermon in my home for my family, just as intimately as we’ve been doing for the Friday prayers.
God made the entire earth a Mosque for Prophet Muhammad and made each one of us minor Imams in our own spheres. God is present everywhere and descends upon every heart that remembers Him and fulfills their duties to Him and His creation to the utmost.
“If Ahmadi Muslims wish to celebrate Eid in the true sense, then where they seek to attain the blessings of true Eid by bringing about a moral reformation, they should also make every effort to free the world from injustices and should engage fervently in prayer” advised the Fifth Caliph of Messiah Ahmad and worldwide head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in his Eid-ul-Fitr Sermon of 2015. Sustaining this moral and spiritual reformation that we achieved through God’s grace, the spirit of readily giving, striving, sacrifice, service to and solidarity with the less fortunate is what Eid is all about. This is how true Islam is not only practical but transcendental for every situation, for better or worse.

While #EidUlFitr marks the end of fasting, Muslims must strive to maintain the same level of piety observed during the month of #Ramadan. They must continue to partake in acts of #charity & supplication while staying away from negative thinking, despair & #materialistic desires. pic.twitter.com/DeHXrJlIXM

To avoid undoing the blessing of #Ramadan and in keeping with the spirit of #Eid, Muslims are strongly advised to remember those who are less fortunate and include them in these #celebrations by donating to various relief efforts. #mondaythoughts pic.twitter.com/M33eeyLgjW
